Ekanapuram villagers name road after CM Vijay to thank him for dropping Parandur airport proposal
The previous DMK govt had acquired almost 50% of the land required for the Parandur airport project from about 13 villages.

CHENNAI: The grama sabha of Ekanapuram village in Kancheepuram district, where the now-shelved greenfield airport project was proposed by the previous DMK govt, on Saturday passed a resolution to name the main road in the village after chief minister C Joseph Vijay.The grama sabha meeting was held at the govt middle school in the village under the chairmanship of village panchayat president S Sumathi, where a resolution to name the main road of the village as “Thalapathy Vijay Salai” was unanimously passed.The gram panchayat thanked the chief minister for dropping the proposed airport project for the sake of agriculture and livelihood of farmers. “The chief minister recognised the 1,100-day-long protests of the residents, took a policy decision to drop the project and the process is on. The blessings of the village deities be upon the CM,” the resolution said.The previous DMK govt had acquired almost 50% of the land required for the Parandur airport project from about 13 villages. But Vijay opposed the airport proposal and started his field politics from Parandur ahead of the assembly elections.It may be noted that the villagers tonsured their heads before the assembly elections as an offering to the local deities to make Vijay the chief minister since he promised that he would drop the airport project if elected to power.
