PUNE: Pune is seeing strong interest today in three stories — continuing flight disruptions, the upcoming Marathi language test for commercial drivers and the investigation into the attack on Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal in Nanded.A Dubai-bound SpiceJet flight from Pune was delayed by nine hours, leaving more than 100 passengers stranded overnight at the airport. Flyers have raised concerns about the handling of the disruption and the lack of timely information.Meanwhile, Pune is also connected to the investigation into the Nanded gurdwara attack because the accused, Jaspal Singh, has deep links to the city.Police said the 61-year-old law graduate had tried several professions in Pune and had also run a snacks centre.
SpiceJet passengers face overnight disruption
The nine-hour delay on the Pune-Dubai flight has again put airline reliability under the spotlight. Passengers reportedly remained at the airport overnight and complained about inadequate food and communication during the delay.
Marathi test approaching
Autorickshaw and cab drivers in Pune are also preparing for the Maharashtra government’s Marathi proficiency field test, scheduled to begin on August 16. Drivers are attending basic Marathi training as the requirement moves closer to implementation.
Nanded attack has Pune link
The investigation into the attack on Sukhbir Singh Badal continues to have a Pune angle. Police have said the accused had lived and worked in Pune and had tried multiple professions before the alleged attack.
