New Delhi: Police busted an alleged child trafficking racket and arrested five women. A baby, less than a week old, was rescued in the operation.Police were tipped off on Aug 7 that one Isha and her accomplices would arrive near Hanuman Mandir at Yamuna Bazar in Kashmere Gate to sell a newborn. An STF team laid a trap, deploying a head constable and a woman constable posing as buyers.DCP (north) Raja Banthia said, “The decoys struck a deal to purchase the infant for Rs 6.5 lakh and paid Rs 20,000 as token money. Soon, Isha called four women, one of whom was carrying the baby wrapped in a blanket. Police then apprehended all five.”“The accused disclosed that they had procured the newborn for Rs 4.1 lakh,” DCP Banthia added. The rescued infant was shifted to Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital for medical examination. Child Welfare Committee and Child Helpline were informed.
