Hyderabad: The Telangana high court has directed the interim enrolment committee of the Bar Council of Telangana to keep the enrolment process in abeyance until it delivers its order in a case challenging the constitution of the committee. Justice N Tukaramji issued the direction on Aug 12 and posted the matter to Aug 31 for orders.The judge was hearing a petition filed by B Jagadishwer, who challenged a June 6, 2026 letter constituting the interim enrolment committee. He contended that the letter was illegal and contrary to the Advocates Act, 1961, and urged the court to suspend it and direct the constitution of a regular enrolment committee as mandated under the law. The Bar Council of India, the Bar Council of Telangana and the enrolment committee opposed the plea.The court noted that arguments in the case had concluded and the matter was awaiting orders. It was noted that the committee planned to conduct enrolments on Aug 17 and process around 200 applications.Justice Tukaramji observed that if the petitioner ultimately succeeded, questions could arise over the validity of any enrolments carried out by the interim enrolment committee in the meantime.
