Lucknow: UP Congress president Ajay Rai on Thursday asked CM Yogi Adityanath to fill police posts that may fall vacant after candidates selected for more than one post opt for higher-paying positions.Rai made the demand in a letter to CM after a delegation of police recruitment aspirants met him.“Candidates pointed out instances of multiple selections in the 2023 Police Computer Operator Grade-A recruitment and the 2023 recruitment for Sub-Inspector (Confidential) and Assistant Sub-Inspector (Clerk and Accounts),” he said.Adding that candidates selected for multiple posts would naturally prefer the post carrying the higher pay scale, leaving the lower-ranked post vacant, Rai sought directions to UP Police Recruitment and Promotion Board to remove such candidates from the lower-post selection list and offer the vacancies to eligible candidates on the waiting/reserve list.Rai cited a Jan 16, 2023, order of the Police Board under which the results of 124 candidates selected for multiple posts were revised by removing them from posts with lower pay scales.Rai said the same principle should be applied in the current case, arguing that leaving sanctioned posts vacant would deprive other eligible candidates of employment opportunities.He said some aspirants had approached courts over the issue but urged govt to resolve the matter administratively, pointing out that litigation could impose an additional financial burden on unemployed youth.
