New Delhi: Police arrested two men from West Bengal’s Durgapur in connection with a cyber fraud involving unauthorised transactions worth nearly Rs 40 lakh.The accused have also been linked to 124 complaints of cyber fraud across several states involving around Rs 100 crore.According to police, the accused allegedly posed as telecom service providers and contacted victims on the pretext of upgrading or converting their SIM cards to e-SIMs. They allegedly gained control of victims’ mobile numbers, enabling access to OTPs and banking authentication messages before transferring their funds to multiple mule accounts. A case was registered.Based on technical surveillance and manual inputs, police identified the accused as Ankit Das and his cousin Subal Das. Ankit was allegedly the key operator, while Subal assisted in contacting victims. Both were arrested.Police seized 44 mobile phones, several containing multiple SIMs/e-SIM profiles, along with telecom-branded clothing allegedly used during video calls to make the impersonation appear genuine.
