Ambala: Ambala Police have arrested two persons over the Aug 7 assault on Ludhiana-based International Anti-Khalistan Terrorist Front (IAKTF) chief Gursimran Singh Mand at Panjokhra Sahib village, triggering resentment among sections of the Sikh community.Harvinder Singh and Anmol Singh, both residents of Panjokhra Sahib, were produced before a district court on Wednesday and remanded in 14-day judicial custody. Ambala SP Ajit Singh Shekhawat said Anmol has a criminal antecedent, with a POCSO case registered against him at Ambala Cantonment police station. He is currently out on bail.Several Sikh organisations and community members have questioned the arrests, alleging that police have not yet acted on complaints against Mand and his son Bhavjot Singh. The complaints relate to an alleged violation of gurdwara protocol on Gurpurb and an incident in which their car allegedly rammed and injured Sikh devotees.Earlier, the community had secured the release of three men from police custody after protests. Police had maintained they were picked up only for questioning.The Akal Panthak Morcha, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Akali Dal Waris Punjab De and some Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) members have called a gathering at Gurdwara Panjokhra Sahib at 11am on Wednesday. SAD Haryana president Harkesh Singh Mohri, HSGMC member Gurtej Singh, Navdeep Singh Jalbera, activist Bhana Sidhu and Akali Dal Waris Punjab De worker Lakha Sidhana are among those who have appealed for participation.Gurtej Singh urged the Sikh Sangat to gather peacefully and in a disciplined manner, saying the next course of action would be decided after discussions.Police have heightened security around the proposed gathering.“We identified some persons who were extremely aggressive during the incident and subsequently arrested two of them. The community has given a call for a gathering on Thursday and we will observe the situation. More arrests may be made later,” Shekhawat said.On the complaints against Mand and his son, he said police were examining CCTV footage to establish the sequence of events and had sought legal opinion.
