Hyderabad: Eagle Force sleuths on Tuesday night arrested a former University of Hyderabad (UoH) student for allegedly possessing and selling ganja on the campus. Another student, who tested positive for ganja consumption, was sent for rehabilitation.According to officials, the accused peddler has named 17 students who allegedly purchased ganja from him. Eagle Force officials are now verifying their identities and collecting details.Acting on a tip-off about a postgraduate student allegedly consuming ganja in a campus hostel, Eagle Force personnel raided the hostel on Aug 7 and detained him. “The student confessed that he had purchased 10 grams of ganja from a former student for Rs 500 and consumed it. He tested positive for ganja in a urine test,” an Eagle Force official said.Based on the student’s confession, the team arrested the 28-year-old alleged peddler, a Gopanpally resident, from a UoH hostel on Tuesday night.“The peddler completed his postgraduation from the campus. He frequently visits the university and allegedly sells ganja to students. We seized five grams of the contraband from him. He named 17 student consumers, whom we are in the process of identifying before issuing notices,” an Eagle Force officer said. The accused was handed over to Gachibowli police for further action.Gachibowli inspector K Saidulu said a case had been booked against the accused under Section 27 of the NDPS Act. “He has been issued a notice to appear for investigation whenever summoned,” he said.“Two students have been picked up. It is not true that 17 students tested positive for ganja. It was a regular inspection by Eagle Force sleuths. The investigation is under process,” a senior UoH official said.
