Hyderabad: A 25-year-old police constable died by suicide at the LB Nagar ACP office in the early hours of Wednesday. He left two letters addressed to senior officials, stating that he did not like his present posting and wanted to return to his previous duties at the LB Nagar police station. The deceased was identified as J Sai Kumar, a 2024-batch constable from Manchal. According to police, Sai Kumar worked with the blue-colts patrolling team at the LB Nagar police station. A fortnight ago, he was shifted to e-cops desk duties at the LB Nagar ACP office. He was staying at a men’s hostel in Karmanghat and preparing for SI recruitment exams.At around midnight, the LB Nagar DCP office team tried to contact Sai Kumar for the Daily Status Report (DSR) of the sub-division. When he did not respond to their calls, the DCP office team contacted other night duty staff. A head constable from the LB Nagar police station went to the staff rest room at the ACP office and found Sai Kumar dead at around 2.30 am on Wednesday. Alerted by the head constable, the night duty staff rushed Sai Kumar to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.After the incident came to light, family members staged a protest at the ACP office, demanding an explanation from senior officials as to why the young constable had decided to end his life abruptly. Meanwhile, angry family members vandalised the office reception area by pushing away chairs, computer and printer, before they were pacified by cops. The constable’s father, J Bodhya, alleged that the body was shifted to morgue without the family members.“I have suspicion over my son’s death. Police took the signature of my elder son, Sevalal, who is also a constable, on the Medico-Legal Certificate (MLC) report and sent the body to Osmania General Hospital for autopsy without family members. CCTV cameras were not working in the room where my son ended his life. When I asked for my son’s phone, they handed it over after four hours,” he alleged in his police complaint. Based on his complaint, police registered a case under section 194 (suspicious death) of BNSS.Police found two letters addressed to LB Nagar DCP and ACP among the constable’s belongings. “In the letters, he mentioned that he did not like e-cops office work and wanted to return to blue colts duties. We learnt that Sai Kumar was worried about whether he would be allowed to return to blue colts work and ended his life. We spoke to his batchmates and colleagues, and no harassment from senior officers has come to light,” said a senior police officer.
