Hyderabad: Revenue and housing minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Wednesday urged union rural development minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to allocate 11.5 lakh housing units to Telangana in a single tranche under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G 2.0) scheme.Ponguleti met the Union minister in New Delhi and submitted a representation in this regard. Stating that a letter was earlier addressed by chief minister A Revanth Reddy, he requested the Union minister to expedite the allocation of houses to the State.Minister Ponguleti explained that a transparent door-to-door survey was conducted across Telangana through the ‘Awaas Plus–2024’ application. More than 11.5 lakh rural poor families were identified as eligible for housing assistance during the survey.Pointing out that the construction of houses for the poor had remained stalled in Telangana during the previous govt’s tenure, he urged Shivraj Singh Chouhan to sanction all the pending housing units to the state in a single tranche.Minister Ponguleti said the state govt was providing a financial assistance of ₹5 lakh to every poor family for constructing a house. He urged for separate central assistance and the regular state share available under PMAY-G.
