The shooting occurred around 5:45 pm on Dhabas Road in the Karni Vihar area, where the assailants intercepted victim Ganga Sahay’s motorcycle on a busy road.

The assailants, riding a scooter, manoeuvred in front of Sahay’s bike, forcing him to come to a halt before opening fire, said police. The masked men fired three shots at Sahay, with one bullet piercing his helmet and striking him in the head. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the shooting.Police recovered three empty cartridge cases along with a magazine from the site of the crime. An FSL team reached to examine the area and collect evidence. Sahay’s body was sent to the SMS Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Prashant Kiran said Sahay had been serving a life sentence for the 2018 murder of history-sheeter Mahendra Gurjar in Moti Doongri, a case that has now resurfaced following his killing. “We are probing the possibility that Sahay was targeted in revenge for Gurjar’s murder,” Kiran added.Preliminary investigations revealed that Gurjar was killed after being struck on the head at Dhabas in April 2018. Sahay was convicted of Gurjar’s murder and sentenced to life imprisonment in 2022. He was moved to open jail in May 2025 due to his good behaviour.CCTV footage from the Karni Vihar area showed the two suspects riding ahead of Sahay prior to the attack. Police are currently interrogating individuals associated with Gurjar and examining connections related to the previous dispute. They are reconstructing Sahay’s movements from the time he left home to assess if he was followed by his assailants.The brazen nature of the killing prompted a rapid response from police teams across Karni Vihar, Bhankrota and Chitrakoot. An A-category blockade was implemented across the Jaipur commissionerate; however, the attackers remained unidentified as of late Wednesday night.
