Ahmedabad: A partially developed human fetus was found floating in Sabarmati river near the Riverfront on Monday evening, prompting Sabarmati Riverfront (West) police to register a case against an unidentified woman for allegedly abandoning it to conceal a birth.According to the FIR, police received a control-room alert around 6.30pm after a woman informed authorities that what appeared to be a child was floating in the river near the riverfront. A fire brigade team was dispatched to the spot and recovered the fetus from the water.Police said the fetus was found near the walkway beneath Sardar Bridge on the eastern side of the riverfront. Fireman Bharat Mangela, who retrieved it, informed investigators that it was found floating in the river in a deceased condition.Two panch witnesses, including a woman, were called to the scene. During a preliminary examination conducted in the presence of the woman witness.Investigators said no visible injury marks were found on the body, and the fetus was unclothed. Initial efforts to identify the parents did not yield any leads.Police registered a case under Section 94 of the BNS.
