HYDERABAD: Growth of urban transport in Hyderabad and a high-profile police case figure among key issues today. Chief Minister of Telangana A Revanth Reddy has directed the officials to procure new Metro coaches for Hyderabad Metro, as the number of riders is increasing and also speed up the works related to the Metro Phase-II expansion.The drive to boost the number of coaches comes as the current fleet copes with increasing demand from passengers and the city continues to depend heavily on public transport.Meanwhile, the case of an IPS officer trainee allegedly sexually harassing and assaulting another trainee continues to hog the limelight.The Hyderabad Police have registered a case following the allegations made by the woman trainee at the National Police Academy in Shivarampally.The accused was later taken into police custody. The developments highlight two quite different aspects of Hyderabad today, an expanding metropolitan transport system and the scrutiny of institutional accountability.
Fresh impetus for metro expansion
The number of passengers is increasing and the Telangana government is looking at strengthening Hyderabad’s metro network. Revanth Reddy ordered officials to purchase more metro coaches and accelerate the works of Phase-II.This is a big step for a city where rapid urbanization has put more and more pressure on roads.
