Ahmedabad: The Gujarat State Sanskrit Board, functioning under the education department, has announced the observance of Sanskrit Week Mahotsav 2026 in all govt, grant-in-aid and self-financed schools across the state from Aug 25 to 31.The weeklong celebration will coincide with World Sanskrit Day on Aug 28, observed on Shravan Purnima. The initiative aims to promote Sanskrit, preserve India’s knowledge traditions and foster greater awareness and pride in the language among students.Officials said the programme aligns with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which advocates the promotion of Indian languages, revival of traditional knowledge systems, value-based education and wider dissemination of Sanskrit. The event is envisioned not only as a cultural celebration but also as an educational campaign to strengthen students’ connection with India’s heritage, traditional knowledge and values.Schools have been directed to organise a range of Sanskrit-related activities and competitions during the seven-day period. The programmes are intended to encourage students to learn, use and appreciate the language while generating greater interest in Sanskrit.
