Ghaziabad: A 32-year-old kanwariya died on Monday after falling from a moving AMU train going from Saharanpur to Old Delhi. The man was travelling with a friend when he fell off the train as it crossed a bridge.DCP (rural) Surendranath Tiwari said that Monu, a resident of Khajuri in Delhi, was travelling with his friend Pawan. The two boarded the train at Saharanpur and Monu was sitting at the gate. As the train was passing over the bridge behind Sai Mandir near Modinagar, Monu lost his balance and fell onto the stones near the bridge.“Passengerrs raised an alarm and the train was stopped. Pawan got down and tried to help Monu, but the man had sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot,” the DCP said.Pawan called the emergency helpine number 112 and a team from Modinaga police station reached the spot. Cops sent the body for an autopsy and the reports are awaited. No police omplaint has been filed in the case.Pawan said he and Monu had set out set out for Delhi with Ganga water from Haridwar. They had taken the journey via train together for the past three years. “The train was extremely crowded. Monu was sitting by the coach doorway, and I was just a little behind him. I was also carrying Ganga water with me. Suddenly, I heard Monu scream, and when I looked, he had fallen from the train. When the train stopped and I reached him, he was already dead,” Pawan said.On Aug 5, three kanwariyas, including a minor, were killed after their bike crashed into the back of an unknown vehicle on Delhi-Meerut Expressway. Police said the rider likely lost control while riding at a high speed. All three victims were residents of Aligarh.On Aug 3, a 20-year-old died and his friend sustained minor injuries after their bike was hit by a dumper truck on NH-9 near Chijjarshi cut.On Aug 2, an ambulance carrying a patient to hospital was left stranded for nearly an hour on Delhi-Meerut road after a minor collision with a tractor-trolley carrying kanwariyas triggered a blockade.
