Chautala drug bust follows Abhay’s one-week ultimatum to cops

Hisar: Days after INLD chief Abhay Chautala accused police of failing to curb the alleged open sale of drugs in his native Chautala village and gave the administration a week to act, Dabwali police arrested a man with 20 grams of heroin and Rs 5.6 lakh cash from the village.A CIA team led by sub-inspector Shailendra Kumar was conducting patrol and checking in Chautala when it received information about a suspected drug peddler. Police intercepted Anil Kumar and recovered the heroin and cash from his backpack during a search, describing the cash as “drug money”.A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act was registered at Sadar Dabwali police station. Police said the accused was being questioned to identify others allegedly linked to the drug network. The arrest comes amid a political row over Abhay Chautala’s allegations. During a visit to Dabwali, Rania and Ellenabad constituencies on Sunday, Chautala said villagers had complained to him about drug trafficking in Chautala. He said he subsequently raised the issue with Dabwali SP Jasleen Kaur and alleged that “chitta” was being openly sold in the village.Chautala had given police a week to take action, failing which he said INLD would launch a protest against the police administration. His remarks drew a counterattack from JJP leader and his nephew Digvijay Chautala, who said people knew who was selling “chitta and opium” in Dabwali constituency and Chautala village. He also questioned who was pressuring police and sheltering those involved.
