Varanasi: A 23-year-old man wanted in an abetment to suicide case was arrested near the Mirzamurad police station gate on Monday.Case was registered against Gopi alias Karu, resident of the Cholapur police station area, under sections 108 (abetment of suicide) and 77 (voyeurism) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with section 66E of the IT Act. Police also recovered a mobile phone used in the offence from his possession.According to a complaint filed by the deceased woman’s family at Mirzamurad police station, the accused sent objectionable photos and videos of the woman to the mobile phone of her prospective husband. Distressed by the incident, the woman consumed poison on Jul 19 and died during treatment.Mirzamurad inspector Gopalji Kushwaha said that during interrogation, Gopi claimed he was known to the deceased. After learning that her marriage was fixed with another person, he obtained the prospective husband’s mobile number and sent him objectionable photos and videos, which police said had been captured during WhatsApp video calls. Police said the accused admitted to the act during questioning.
