Dimapur: Continued heavy rain has raised the threat of waterlogging and flooding in Dimapur’s low-lying and vulnerable areas.Dimapur District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Tuesday urged residents to remain alert and monitor sudden rises in water levels in drains, nallahs and other channels.The advisory, issued by deputy commissioner and DDMA chairperson Tinojongshi Chang, asked people to avoid unnecessary travel during downpours, particularly through waterlogged or flood-prone areas. It warned against crossing flooded roads, overflowing drains, culverts, nallahs or fast-flowing water on foot or in vehicles.Parents were advised to keep children away from rivers, drains and flooded areas during and immediately after heavy rain. Motorists should exercise extreme caution, especially at night, when the depth and condition of inundated roads may be unclear.Residents were also told to avoid electric poles, fallen power lines, weak structures, damaged buildings and fallen trees. Those in vulnerable areas should be ready to move to safer locations if necessary or directed by authorities.DDMA advised keeping essential supplies, medicines, documents, drinking water, phones and torches accessible. It urged residents not to dump waste in drains, saying blockages could worsen flooding, and to follow official updates from state authorities while disregarding unverified information.
