Varanasi: Two men were arrested on Sunday evening for allegedly attempting to induce villagers to convert to Christianity by holding a prayer session at a house in Gauri village. Police said they recovered material related to the propagation of Christianity and alleged that the accused were offering money and promising future financial benefits to villagers.Baburi police station sub-inspector Sanjit Kumar Singh said on Monday that, after being alerted by a group of villagers, a police team raided the residence of Ashok, where several villagers were allegedly being influenced to leave Hinduism and adopt Christianity.During the raid, police found that the accused were allegedly offering money and promising future financial benefits while distributing material related to the propagation of Christianity.Following initial questioning and investigation, police arrested Ashish Narayan of Badgawan village under Shahabganj police station and Ashok of Gauri village under Baburi police station. Police also seized the material related to the propagation of Christianity.They were booked under Sections 3 and 5(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021.
