Hyderabad: Persistent drainage problems, inadequate road restoration and a deteriorating community hall have left residents along the Chatrinaka-Uppuguda main road frustrated, with locals alleging prolonged civic neglect in the area.Residents said a major manhole on the main road frequently overflows during the monsoon, particularly when rainwater flowing down from Falaknuma accumulates near Uppuguda. Despite repeated complaints, they alleged that the blockage has not been permanently addressed by the civic authorities.According to locals, road restoration work carried out after drainage-related repairs has largely been limited to patchwork. During heavy rains, water accumulates on the stretch, disrupting traffic and making it difficult for pedestrians and motorists to navigate the road.Residents said prolonged waterlogging could not only damage the road but also increase the risk of accidents and affect properties located along the stretch. They have demanded that the authorities undertake a permanent solution instead of repeatedly carrying out temporary repairs.

Locals have urged the GHMC and other departments concerned to immediately clear the blocked manhole, restore the damaged road properly, improve the drainage network and identify and remove alleged illegal sewage connections contributing to the problem.Meanwhile, residents have also raised concerns over an unused community hall in the locality. They said the facility has remained closed for several years and has fallen into disrepair. The building reportedly has visible signs of deterioration and is frequently occupied by stray animals.Residents fear that the neglected structure could pose a safety risk, particularly if portions of the building weaken further. They have sought a structural inspection and immediate repairs, or appropriate action to secure the premises.“HMWSSB dug up the road for pipeline works after obtaining permission from us and assured that the road would be restored upon completion of the works. Subsequently, the GHMC projects wing has also proposed widening the Chatrinaka–Uppuguda road,” said an official in GHMC’s engineering wing.
