Panaji: Panaji crossed the 1,000 mm seasonal rainfall mark on Sunday, recording 1,001.4 mm since June 1, according to the data of the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This monsoon, the state’s driest station received 17.8 mm of rain in the 24 hours ending 8.30am on Aug 9.All 14 rain gauge stations across Goa have now recorded more than 1,000 mm of seasonal rainfall. Some stations have also crossed the 2,000 mm mark, including Sanguem (2,167.5mm), Dharbandora (2,150.7mm) and Valpoi (2,102.3mm).Quepem is on the brink of the 2000-mm mark as the rain gauge station has recorded 1,916.5mm so far. Following close behind are Canacona at 1,769.2mm, Ponda at 1,641.2mm and Sanquelim at 1,619.6mm.From June 1 to Aug 9, Goa received 1,554.7mm of rainfall against the normal 2,241.4mm, recording a 30.6% rainfall deficit.The IMD has forecast generally cloudy conditions and moderate showers across Goa till Aug 15.For the next 24 hours, the forecast for Panaji and Mormugao is generally cloudy skies with moderate rainfall. Maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to remain between 31°C and 25°C.Squally winds with speeds of 45-55 kmph, gusting to 65 kmph, are likely to prevail along the west-central Arabian Sea and some parts of the southwest Arabian Sea adjoining the northwest Arabian Sea.
