Sparrow conservation and plantation drive by NER in Gorakhpur
The initiative aimed to raise environmental awareness and create a bird-friendly habitat for sparrows

Gorakhpur: The Environment and Housekeeping Management (ENHM) section of the Mechanical Department at North Eastern Railway (NER) headquarters organised a sparrow conservation, plantation and sapling distribution campaign at Labour Colony in Mohaddipur on Sunday.The initiative aimed to raise environmental awareness and create a bird-friendly habitat for sparrows and other species in and around the colony. As part of the campaign, saplings were planted on the premises of the colony temple, while residents were distributed potted plants carrying messages on sparrow conservation.Addressing the gathering, Chief Mechanical Engineer (ENHM) Ambrish Prakash Pandey said environmental protection was a collective responsibility and that even a single plant could help create cleaner surroundings while providing shelter and food for birds and other living creatures. He stressed the need to create favourable conditions for sparrows and encourage greater public participation in conservation efforts.The campaign also highlighted that environmental protection goes beyond planting trees and includes regular maintenance of plants, cleanliness and creation of sustainable ecosystems for birds and wildlife.Former head of the Zoology department at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University D K Singh, educator Praveen Singh Gautam, railway officials, employees and members of the Labour Colony Welfare Society were among those present.
