Jaipur: Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma Saturday said prolonged pendency of cases in courts not only delays implementation of projects but also increases their cost, stressing the need to identify and fast-track cases involving public interest. Addressing an interaction programme with public prosecutors and law officers at his residence, Sharma said every district and department should prepare a list of cases related to public interest and ensure regular monitoring for speedy disposal. He said timely resolution of such cases was important to prevent delays in development and public welfare projects.The CM said a decision has been taken to increase the retainership and appearance fees of law officers representing the state govt in high court. It has also been decided to increase drafting and opinion fees, he said. To address the problems faced by law officers and ensure regular dialogue with them, additional advocate generals would be assigned division-wise responsibilities.Sharma said public prosecutors were an important link in the judicial process, from representing the govt in courts to ensuring justice for people, particularly those at the last rung of society. He urged prosecutors to approach cases with sensitivity, saying that needy and aggrieved people often approach courts with the hope of getting justice.The CM also called for regular seminars and interaction programmes to enable public prosecutors to benefit from the experience of senior advocates and find solutions to practical difficulties in cases through collective discussions.He further stressed the need to strengthen coordination and dialogue between law officers and senior govt officials at the departmental and district levels.
