Retd Col duped of over Rs 2 lakh

Times News NetworkPanchkula: A 91-year-old retired Army Colonel was allegedly duped of Rs 2.7 lakh by cyber fraudsters who posed as officials of a gas company. They told him that his gas bill had been generated, and he needed to provide his meter reading.Complainant Ram Lobhaya Gupta, a resident of Sector 5, said he received a call on Aug 2 from a mobile number. The caller allegedly introduced himself as a gas company official. Asking for his meter reading, the caller allegedly got him to speak to another person about it. They then sent him a payment link.The complainant said he was asked to make an online payment to settle the latest bill. The fraudsters allegedly persuaded him to make payments through Paytm and subsequently obtained access to his bank account. Gupta later found that Rs 2.7 lakh had been withdrawn from his account. A case has been registered.
