CHENNAI: AMMK leader T T V Dhinakaran on Saturday demanded a CBI probe into the fraudulent registration of a parcel of land belonging to the Dhandayudapani Swami Mutt in Palani after a lawyer arrested in the case and lodged in the Madurai Central Prison died under “mysterious circumstances.” He demanded a CBI probe into the Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple land registration case too.Lawyer S Anwardeen, arrested in connection with the alleged registration of Palani mutt land worth around Rs 100 crore using forged documents, died in the Government Rajaji Hospital on Friday night reportedly due to ill health. Sub-registrar Justin Manikandan, who was arrested in the case, was admitted to Dindigul Government Medical College Hospital on Friday after he complained of chest pain and dizziness.In a social media post, Dhinakaran said these two developments had raised questions, particularly as they came amid a series of complaints over alleged fraudulent registration of temple properties.The chain of events revolving around the fraudulent registration of Palani mutt land and Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple land had raised serious questions, said Dhinakaran.“With a key accused in the Palani case now dead after completing CB-CID interrogation and returning to prison, questions have been raised over the circumstances surrounding his death. There are concerns over whether his death was linked to any deterioration in health during custody or was due to pre-existing ailments.”“The state govt should hand over the probe into these cases to the CBI so that the circumstances surrounding the transactions and the death of the accused are thoroughly investigated and the truth brought out,” he said.
