Noida: A post office in Greater Noida’s Alpha I is battling severe leakage from the roof, with rainwater seeping into public counters and office areas. Staff have placed buckets at multiple spots and put up plastic sheets to continue operations. Officials said they have written to GNIDA seeking repairs. The Authority said it would look into the matter.Located on the first floor of a G+1 building in C Block, the post office has been functioning from the premises since the building was handed over to the postal department by GNIDA in 2008. The facility caters to around 400-500 visitors every day, offering services such as speed post, parcel booking, registered mail, updating Aadhaar information, etc .The leaks started with the onset of the current monsoon and have worsened with every spell of rain. Rainwater now seeps through multiple sections of the roof and walls, leading to water accumulating across the office floor.“The office has a covered area of around 2,000 sqm. Rainwater has been leaking through the roof, resulting in water accumulation throughout the premises. A few days ago, the staff had closed the office and left for home in the evening. At night, there was heavy rainfall and water entered four computers and other electronic equipment, rendering them unusable and severely disrupting office operations. We had to replace the damaged systems,” said Sumit Kumar Yadav, the sub-postmaster.The situation could cause damage to govt property, official records, and electrical installations, and poses a threat to both the staff and the visitors. The employees have already written to GNIDA twice, requesting urgent intervention and repairs to the building, but no efforts have been made to remedy the issue so far.Visitors, meanwhile, also expressed concerns over the building’s deteriorating condition.Alok Kumar, a resident of Alpha 1, said the nearly two-decade-old structure requires immediate maintenance. “The post office handles important letters, documents, speed post consignments and parcels every day. If these documents are damaged due to rainwater, they may lose their value and could also cause emotional and financial distress to people awaiting important communications,” he said.RK Shahi, a resident of Zeta 1, said that the waterlogging in post-office was inconveniencing visitors, adding, “The officials must address this issue on a priority basis.”Vijay Rawal, GNIDA deputy general manager, said the Authority would examine the issue. “If the building falls under the jurisdiction of Greater Noida Authority, we will look into the matter and take the necessary steps,” Rawal added.
