Mohali: Offering relief to thousands of daily commuters, the Punjab govt Friday assured the Vidhan Sabha that key issues plaguing the long-troubled Kharar-Landran Road will be resolved within the next 15 days. The assurance came from cabinet minister Harjot Singh Bains during a discussion on delays in public infrastructure projects, with legislators raising concerns over the slow pace of development works and the inconvenience caused to residents.Acknowledging the condition of one of Mohali district’s busiest arterial roads, Bains said the stretch was under constant monitoring due to the hardships faced by lakhs of commuters.“The Kharar-Landran Road is under weekly review because lakhs of people are facing inconvenience. We will resolve the issue within the next 15 days,” Bains told the house. His statement comes amid mounting public anger over the deteriorating condition of the road, where damaged surfaces, deep potholes, waterlogging and prolonged construction works have turned daily travel into a challenge. The situation has been exacerbated by ongoing sewerage and drainage infrastructure works near Shivalik City, with portions of the carriageway remaining dug up for months. Key stretches near Khuni Majra and the Landran approach continue to be uneven and hazardous, forcing motorists to navigate around craters and bottlenecks.During the monsoon, overflowing sewer water often inundates parts of the road, concealing potholes and increasing the risk of accidents. The poor condition of the stretch has repeatedly drawn criticism from residents and commuters and has even come under judicial scrutiny.Bains said development projects in his constituency are reviewed every week to ensure accountability and timely execution. He also urged legislators to flag delayed public works so that prompt intervention could be made.Officials have maintained that final resurfacing of the road can begin only after completion of the underground sewerage infrastructure. The administration has set Aug 31 as the target for completing restoration of the carriageway.
