New Delhi: No existing house in the O-zone, which is the Yamuna floodplain, will be demolished, Delhi minister Kapil Mishra said in the monsoon session of the assembly Friday, and alleged that AAP was politicising the issue. His remarks came after AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha said homes were being demolished in the O-zone areas. He mentioned several places, including Burari, Jagatpur, Wazirabad, Karawal Nagar, Sonia Vihar and Badarpur. “The very colonies that were included in the regularisation process under the PM-UDAY scheme are now facing action, which is a grave injustice to thousands of families. I have demanded from govt that the demolition action be immediately halted, affected families be given justice, and their legal status be clearly defined,” Jha said.Minister Kapil Mishra said BJP MPs such as Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Manoj Tiwari as well as MLAs have discussed it with the authorities. “There are over 30 lakh houses in the O-zone and none will be demolished,” Mishra said. “AAP workers were filing complaints” against constructions in O-zone areas with the MCD and DDA to take action and then doing politics over it, he alleged. The previous govt did not take steps in the last 10 years to protect these houses, that is why they were facing the threat, he added. He alleged that govt had failed to clarify its position on the status of the colonies in court, leaving residents uncertain about their legal rights.Mishra retorted, saying: “You (AAP) want to see the houses being demolished so that you can do politics over it.” The chief minister and LG have already discussed the matter and made it clear that no houses will be demolished in O-zone area, the minister said. He also proposed a discussion on the issue in the House.
