Ghaziabad: A 47-year-old man was rescued from a drain in Block I, Shastri Nagar, on Friday. Police said the man was drunk and slipped into the 15-foot-deep drain. The man was stuck in the drain for nearly 45 minutes before being pulled out by the fire department.Chief fire officer Rahul Pal said they were informed around 10am that a man was stuck in the drain. Officers from the Kotwali fire station, along with one Fire Quick Response Vehicle (FQRV) and one fire tender from Kavi Nagar, reached the spot.A senior officer said they saw the drain was choked with polythene. “We lowered two ladders into the drain: one wooden ladder and another extension ladder. Then two of our officers climbed down into the drain and secured the man with a rope. After that, he was pulled up and rescued. During the rescue, a part of the wooden ladder also broke,” he said.ACP Kavi Nagar Siddharth Gautam said the man, Gaurav Singh, was taken to the govt hospital and was released after first aid. “An investigation revealed that Singh was drunk and he slipped and fell into the drain. We informed his family and they told us that they had disowned him several years ago because of his drinking habit,” the ACP said. No complaint has been made in the matter so far.
