Ambala: Gursimran Singh Mand (Gandhi), national president of the International Anti-Khalistan Front and a Central paramilitary security protectee, was allegedly attacked by a group of youths and his car extensively vandalised at Panjokhra Sahib village in Haryana’s Ambala district on Friday evening. Four people, including two Ambala police personnel who intervened to rescue him, were injured in the incident.Besides Mand, the injured were identified as Bhavjot of Ludhiana and Ambala police personnel Rakesh Kumar and Kulbir Rana.Videos of the incident quickly went viral on social media, showing a group of youths allegedly attacking Mand and damaging his vehicle with rods and bricks. Mand is seen in the footage folding his hands before the crowd.The incident occurred on the road leading to the gurdwara, outside the shrine premises. The exact circumstances that led to the confrontation are yet to be ascertained.Reacting to the incident, Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) member Gurtej Singh alleged that Mand had driven his vehicle recklessly through the congregation, injuring several devotees. He claimed Mand’s conduct after the incident further aggravated the situation and added that some members of the congregation were already upset over his past public statements.Ambala SP Ajit Singh Shekhawat said, “The exact reason will be ascertained after recording Gursimran Mand’s statement. When he came to pay obeisance at the gurdwara, he got into a heated argument over some issue and was subsequently attacked by a mob. Mand and another person accompanying him sustained injuries, and their vehicle was damaged. Two police personnel were also injured while rescuing him. However, all are out of danger.”Speaking to the media from hospital, Mand alleged that the attack was pre-planned.“They did not allow me to enter the gurdwara. I was sitting inside my car when a group gathered around the vehicle and started damaging it. The crowd kept growing, and I was attacked with swords, sticks and kicks. I sustained injuries on my hand, arm and head, and some of my teeth were broken. My son was also assaulted and suffered head injuries,” he alleged.
