Dibrugarh: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said damage surveys in four flood-hit districts will begin on Aug 9 and highlighted plans for repair of flood-hit schools.Speaking after a review meeting in Jorhat with officials from Golaghat, Jorhat, Sivasagar and Charaideo, Sarma said district-level training for survey teams would be held on Aug 8.The teams will photograph every affected house and upload the data to a dedicated portal or app. The verification will help the govt assess the damage and funds needed for permanent rehabilitation.“The first phase of the survey will continue till Aug 30. After that, we will visit the people again to ensure that nothing has been missed. By Sept 10, we should have a clear idea of the total damage and the amount of support needed,” the CM said.The govt will assess the financial assistance required from the state or Centre for permanent rehabilitation, he added.Sarma said the govt sanctioned Rs 2 lakh each for initial repairs to flood-hit schools. Schools unable to reopen can hold classes at nearby institutions.“We have instructed the school inspector and district education officers. Otherwise, classes should start from Aug 10. If a school is completely unusable, students will be accommodated in the nearest school,” Sarma said.The govt has also released funds for students who lost uniforms and bags in the floods. Higher secondary, degree and postgraduate students have received Rs 1,000, Rs 2,500 and Rs 5,000, respectively.The assistance is being provided from the CM’s Relief Fund. Funds have been released for 768 schools across the four districts, with another 93 schools covered under the relief package.
