Jaipur: Reshu Gupta, who suffered severe burn injuries during Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma’s VIP movement on June 19, has threatened to launch a protest against VIP movement and what she termed “VIP culture” if no action is taken in her case within the next 10 days.Addressing a press conference Friday, Gupta alleged that the incident occurred on Jagatpura Mahal Road when police asked roadside vendors to clear the route for chief minister’s convoy. She claimed that while she was removing her momo cart, she requested police not to push it as it contained boiling water. However, a policeman allegedly pushed the cart, causing the hot water to spill over her and inflict serious burn injuries.Gupta said the momo cart was her family’s sole source of income after her father’s death during the Covid-19 pandemic. Since the incident, she said, the family has been struggling financially and emotionally.Social activists present at the press conference alleged that VIP movement often disrupts the lives of ordinary citizens by delaying ambulances, patients, students and commuters. They demanded an impartial inquiry into Gupta’s allegations and action against those found responsible.Describing her fight as one for every citizen affected by VIP movement, Gupta said the issue was no longer limited to her case but concerned the dignity and rights of the public. She warned that if justice was not delivered within 10 days, students, women, social organisations and members of the public would join a large democratic protest against VIP movement and “VIP culture.”
