Class 8 student alleges sexual assault by 2 classmates, senior in Faridabad govt school; two juveniles detained

Gurgaon: Three students of a govt school in Faridabad have been booked after a Class 8 student alleged that he was repeatedly sexually assaulted by them inside the school washroom over the course of four days. The case has drawn serious concern given the survivor’s age, medical history, and the apparent failure of the school’s internal safeguarding mechanisms. Two of the accused — both classmates of the survivor — have been detained by police, while a third, believed to be a senior student from Class 10, is yet to be identified and apprehended, a police officer confirmed. The matter came to light not through the school, but through the survivor’s own family. His parents first noticed a marked and troubling change in his behaviour — he had become increasingly withdrawn, was reluctant to speak, and repeatedly refused to attend school. Concerned by the sudden shift, his parents gently questioned him over several days until the child disclosed what had happened.Their distress was further compounded by the survivor’s fragile medical condition — the child has undergone a heart surgery twice, and his parents expressed deep anxiety about the additional physical and psychological toll the trauma may take on him. Police have since ensured that the survivor has received professional counselling.A case has been registered at Saran Police Station under Sections 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault), 10 (aggravated sexual assault), and 17 (abetment of a sexual offence) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.A senior police officer confirmed that all protocols applicable to juvenile offenders are being followed. “The survivor has undergone counselling. The two detained juveniles will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board. We will bring the third juvenile forward once the survivor identifies him,” the officer said.A police officer stated that the school’s internal POCSO committee displayed a “lax attitude” when the matter first came to their notice, and that school authorities were unable to provide satisfactory answers as to how the assault could have occurred repeatedly on school premises without detection or intervention.
