Loan cleared but ‘recovery agents’ still snatched bike, man says

Ghaziabad: A resident of Teela Mor has alleged four men snatched his bike after claiming that he had defaulted in loan repayment although he had paid the amount in full.The incident took place on April 30. An FIR was registered against unknown persons after a recent court order. ACP (Sahibabad) Amit Saxena said police are investigating if the accused posed as recovery agents.The victim, Mohan Kumar, who works in a private company, said he bought his bike on an EMI payment system in 2019. He said he had repaid the amount in full since then.A senior officer said Kumar told police that the incident occurred around 10am when he was in Jawali village. “Four unknown persons forcibly stopped Kumar and snatched his motorcycle. When he attempted to stop them and ask why they were taking the bike away, they told him that he had not repaid the loan. They did not accept the no dues and no objection certificate Kumar showed as proof that he had fully repaid the loan amount,” a senior officer said.The four accused later demanded Rs 62,000 in exchange for leaving the motorcycle with him, the complainant alleged. When he refused, the accused assaulted him and escaped with his bike, he told police.The ACP said the accused have been charged under sections 309 (6) (voluntarily causes hurt while committing or attempting to commit robbery), 308 (2) (extortion) and 351 (2) (criminal intimidation) of the BNS. A team has been formed to investigate the matter.
