Panaji: State govt’s policy to promote electric vehicle (EV) sales to achieve zero carbon emissions showed some results. A total of 10,279 EVs were sold in the first six months of 2026, compared to 10,092 vehicles sold in 2025. Since 2020, 44,000 EVs have been sold in the state.Two-wheelers are the highest number of EVs sold in the state, which is almost over 79% of overall sales of EVs in the state. A total of 2,198 four-wheeler EVs have been sold in the state followed by 42 goods carrier vehicles and 32 three-wheelers and auto rickshaws have been sold respectively.Goa govt will roll out a holistic electric vehicle (EV) and compressed natural gas (CNG) policy to cut dependence on petrol and diesel. Chief minister Pramod Sawant, who chaired a meeting on fuel management and sustainable transport strategy directed officials to identify govt vehicles that can be converted to CNG, and to expand CNG station infrastructure across the state.Govt will prioritise support for rickshaw and motorcycle pilots to shift to EV and CNG vehicles, Sawant said. A senior govt official said that while state govt already has three schemes under which such subsidies are provided, these would be revised, and that the draft policies will be placed before govt for final approval.The new draft EV policy has proposed the same subsidy amount for two- and three-wheelers as in the old policy, but has reduced the amount for four-wheelers by Rs 25,000 (it was Rs 1 lakh under the old policy).The official said that the amount has been reduced because as per the new draft policy, every individual will benefit and there is no cap for subsidy.According to the new draft policy, the subsidy to buy two-wheelers will be Rs 15,000, for three-wheelers, Rs 60,000, and for four-wheelers, Rs 75,000.State govt has decided to roll out a subsidy scheme for electric two-wheelers for licensed motorcycle taxi pilots before Ganesh Chaturthi, with officials seeking to address concerns over charging infrastructure, maintenance and range through stakeholder consultations.New and renewable energy director Soham Uskaikar said the objective is to gradually replace petrol-powered motorcycle taxis with EVs, reducing pollution while lowering operating costs for pilots.
