Jaipur: Jaipur Development Authority has halted action for 15 days against more than 6,000 commercial units operating illegally in residential areas after tribunal intervention in cases involving some Ajmer Road establishments and a Supreme Court directive issued Tuesday.JDA’s enforcement wing had issued notices to or sealed units running commercial operations without proper approvals. The pause follows uncertainty over stay orders granted by a JDA tribunal in a few cases.Commenting on the tribunal’s stay order, a Supreme Court division bench of Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Justice R Mahadevan directed: “The Appellate Authority (tribunal) concerned shall pass final orders in the said matters within two weeks from today, positively. The Presiding Officer of the Tribunal shall be personally responsible and accountable for any violation of this direction.”JDA enforcement wing DIG Anand Sharma told TOI the authority would wait for the tribunal’s final verdict and the Supreme Court’s subsequent order before taking further action.“Although the stay order is not applicable for all units we had flagged, the ground of the stay order is applicable for all. So, we have decided to stall the action for a few days,” Sharma said.Of the more than 6,000 units identified, JDA has removed 4,623 structures, sealed 18 units, issued notices in 1,534 cases and filed 362 court challans. It has also initiated action against 4,048 commercial buildings for violating setback norms.The wider dispute is linked to Rajasthan Housing Board’s coaching hub in Pratap Nagar, built over 67,000 sq m with a built-up area of 1.5 lakh sq m and designed for 50,000-60,000 students. The complex has 224 units ranging from 1,588 sq ft to 8,026 sq ft, priced between Rs 67.2 lakh and Rs 3.7 crore.The project also includes four plots for paying guest facilities, guest houses and hostels, along with 500 studio apartments. RHB spent around Rs 300 crore on the project, but only 14 units have been sold so far.
