Gurgaon: MCG has set a target of taking action against more than 100 illegal and unauthorised constructions during the month.A special month-long campaign will be conducted across the city to demolish illegal structures and initiate legal action, in compliance with the Supreme Court’s directions on unauthorised construction.MCG will constitute special task forces comprising designated officials responsible for carrying out daily enforcement drives in their respective areas.Joint commissioners of each zone will submit daily progress reports to MCG headquarters to facilitate continuous monitoring and review of the campaign at the highest level. The campaign is being called “the most extensive drive” yet against illegal and unauthorised constructions within its jurisdiction.Property owners and builders have been urged to voluntarily remove illegal portions of their buildings before administrative action is initiated. Failure to do so will result in demolition by MCG and the cost of the exercise may be recovered from the concerned property owner or builder.MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said that planned and safe urban development remains the corporation’s highest priority and that ensuring compliance with SC’s directions is the responsibility of every official.“Any negligence in implementing the court’s directions won’t be tolerated. Illegal constructions not only violate the city’s master plan but also adversely affect traffic management, drainage systems, public infrastructure, the environment and public safety. Such structures create long-term administrative and legal challenges. We have adopted a zero-tolerance policy and decided to take decisive action against them,” Dahiya said.The commissioner directed all concerned officials to conduct the campaign in a transparent, impartial and legally compliant manner. He also warned that accountability would be fixed on any officer or employee found protecting illegal constructions or showing negligence in carrying out enforcement.Appealing to residents, Dahiya urged citizens to obtain all mandatory approvals from MCG before commencing any construction and to ensure that building work is carried out strictly according to the sanctioned building plan.The corporation said that illegal and unauthorised constructions will not be tolerated under any circumstances and that action will be taken uniformly against all such structures without discrimination.
