Ludhiana: Taking cognisance of a complaint, the Punjab State Human Rights Commission (PSHRC) has issued a notice to the Ludhiana municipal corporation commissioner, directing him to examine allegations of unauthorised commercial use of residential properties and illegal de-sealing of sealed structures in the city.The commission instructed the civic authority to verify the facts, take appropriate legal action, and resolve the matter at its own level.Social activist Arvind Sharma filed the complaint before the PSHRC on July 2, alleging that large-scale illegal constructions are taking place across MC Ludhiana’s Zones A, B, C, and D, allegedly with the connivance of certain civic officials and employees.The complaint highlighted several key residential localities—including Model Town, Model Town Extension, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (475 Acre Scheme), Pakhowal Road, Ghumar Mandi, and Haibowal—where residential buildings are allegedly being converted for unauthorised commercial activities in violation of applicable laws.Expressing hope following the commission’s intervention, Sharma stated that the PSHRC notice would ensure a fair and impartial inquiry and lead to effective action against illegal constructions and unauthorised commercial activities in residential areas of Ludhiana, thereby safeguarding the rights of residents and upholding the rule of law.
