Kolkata: Around 30,000 people from across Bengal gathered at Rani Rashmoni Avenue in Kolkata on Wednesday to mark the 51st death anniversary of Comrade Shibdas Ghosh, founding general secretary of the SUCI (Communist). Addressing the rally, general secretary Provash Ghosh praised recent student and youth movements in Delhi and accused BJP of promising a “Sonar Bangla” while destroying poor hawkers’ livelihoods. He also urged CPM to move beyond election-centric politics, and called upon them to return to genuine left-wing mass movements, saying the party “will stand by that movement.”
