Palanpur: An elderly woman and a girl were killed and another girl seriously injured after an SUV suddenly lurched forward and crashed into a house courtyard in Vrindavan Society in Bahucharaji on Monday evening.The accident occurred around 7.30pm when the black Bolero, driven by a resident of the same society, got stuck in soft mud in the common plot. Police said the driver, Daksh Saini, allegedly pressed the accelerator hard in an attempt to pull the vehicle out.The vehicle suddenly surged forward at high speed and crashed into the courtyard of a house, where the woman Kanchan was sitting and her granddaughter Harvi and neighbour’s daughter Sonal were playing.The impact was so severe that a permanent veranda beam and the courtyard gate of the house collapsed. Kanchan and the two girls were seriously injured in the crash.Local residents and relatives rushed the three victims to a hospital in Mehsana where Kanchan succumbed. Sonal was shifted to KD Hospital in Ahmedabad, where she died during treatment. Harvi sustained serious fractures and is undergoing treatment.Police said Saini abandoned the vehicle and fled the spot after the accident.Kanchan’s son, Alpesh, lodged a complaint at Bahucharaji police station, accusing Saini of reckless driving
