MUMBAI: The body of a 35-year-old security guard, his hands tied behind his back, was found floating in a water tank on the ground floor of a residential building in Vile Parle (West) on Monday, police said.The deceased, identified as Manojkumar Yadav, worked as a security guard at Abhijit Building on SV Road. The Juhu police have registered a murder case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against an unknown person and formed seven teams to track down the accused.The incident came to light when Yadav’s reliever reported for duty but could not find him at his post. “After searching the entire building, calls were also made to the manpower recruiting agency, but we failed to trace him. Finally, Yadav was found in the ground-floor water tank, which was covered with a lid. The preliminary post-mortem report showed that Yadav was strangulated before his hands were tied and he was dumped in the tank,” said a Juhu police officer.Yadav had been working at the six-storey building for the past few months. The building is slated for redevelopment, with families living on the fifth and sixth floors and offices occupying the lower floors.“On Sunday evening and night, people from the building and the neighbourhood had seen Yadav and even spoken with him,” the officer said.Police suspect Yadav was killed late on Sunday night, but the motive remains unclear. Investigators are probing all angles, including the possibility of an extramarital affair.“Police teams are going through closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the locality and surrounding areas to identify anyone who had visited the building and fled after killing Yadav,” the officer said.
