Jaipur: The Rajasthan Commissionerate for Special Persons with Disabilities asked the state law department to act on a complaint seeking disability-friendly facilities at the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal premises in Banipark, following a representation by disability rights activist Hemant Bhai Goyal.In a memorandum issued on Aug 3, the commissionerate forwarded Goyal’s complaint to the law department, cited provisions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, and sought action as per rules. It also asked the department to report back on the steps taken.Goyal, national president of Divyang Adhikar Mahasangh, said many persons with disabilities and accident victims visited the tribunal daily for compensation claims and court proceedings, but the lack of accessible infrastructure caused inconvenience and humiliation.The representation said the MACT building did not have a standard wheelchair-accessible ramp at the main entrance, making entry difficult for wheelchair users, elderly litigants and accident victims. It also pointed to the lack of accessible toilets, directional signage, wheelchairs and other facilities needed for barrier-free movement.Goyal urged authorities to build a wheelchair-friendly ramp at the earliest, make the MACT premises fully accessible and, if needed, place the matter before the Rajasthan High Court’s Accessibility Committee for prompt action.
