Amritsar: The counter-intelligence wing of the Amritsar police on Monday claimed to have busted a cross-border narcotics smuggling and organised criminal network with the arrest of one of the operatives and seizure of 20 kg of heroin.Gaurav Yadav, the director general of police, Punjab, in a post on X, informed that the arrested accused was working on the directions of a foreign-based handler linked to cross-border drug smugglers.The accused was reportedly involved in receiving heroin consignments from the border area and further delivering these to other members of the network operating in different parts of Punjab.Following the seizure, an FIR was registered at the State Special Operations Cell police station in Amritsar under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, said the police.The DGP said further investigation is underway to trace the smuggling network’s backward and forward linkages, identify other persons involved in the operation, and ascertain its possible connections with previously dismantled narcotics modules.
