LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the BJP), alleging that it represents corruption, oppression and sin. He claimed that most of Uttar Pradesh’s problems would be resolved once the BJP is voted out of power, accoording to news agency PTI. Addressing a press conference at the SP’s state headquarters in Lucknow, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister accused the ruling party of promoting corruption and injustice.“‘B’ stands for bhrasht, ‘J’ for julm and ‘P’ for paap. All the corrupt, oppressive and sinful people are in the BJP,” he said. Yadav alleged that several expressways constructed during the BJP government’s tenure, including the Lucknow-Kanpur, Bundelkhand and Purvanchal expressways, had become examples of corruption.According to news agency PTI, he further claimed that land mafias associated with the ruling party had encroached upon several important ponds across the state.“There is only one crisis in Uttar Pradesh and that is the BJP. Once the BJP goes, all crises will end,” he said. The SP chief also raised questions over the recent use of force against protesting youths at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. He alleged that although the government claimed it did not know who ordered the baton charge, the police personnel involved were aware of whose instructions they were following. Yadav also advised government officials not to act unfairly under pressure from the ruling party, saying the BJP would not support them if they faced legal or administrative consequences in the future. Taking a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his recent Instagram reels, Yadav said it was unfortunate that the BJP had “engaged even the prime minister in making reels”.“When we watch those reels on Instagram, it is painful to see the kind of content being produced,” he remarked. Replying to a question, Yadav said the BJP should respond to allegations that stolen “Ram dhan” was being routed to the party. Referring to action taken against opposition leaders over a recent satirical performance on Parliament premises linked to an alleged donation theft issue, Yadav questioned why no case had been registered against those who allegedly depicted Lord Hanuman in a derogatory manner during a political event. His remarks were apparently aimed at an incident during BJP national president Nitin Nabin’s visit to Uttar Pradesh last month, where a man dressed as Lord Hanuman was seen dancing in front of the leader’s convoy. During the programme, SP leaders also observed a two-minute silence to mourn the death of party MLA Alam Badi.
