Moneylender murdered for cash and property, one arrested

Bhilwara: Police Saturday claimed to have cracked the murder of a 78-year-old moneylender in Bhilwara district, alleging that his clerk conspired with a friend to kill him and seize Rs 70 lakh and property worth crores.One accused, Narayan Lal Sargara, has been arrested, while the main accused, Roshan Gurjar, the clerk, remains absconding. Police said raids are underway to trace him.Bagor SHO Bachhraj Chaudhary said the victim, Shobhalal Jain, a resident of Bavalas village who was a moneylender, went missing about a week ago after returning from a trip.According to the investigation, Roshan allegedly strangled Jain inside a car during the return journey and taped his mouth to ensure he could not survive. With Narayan’s help, the accused allegedly tied the body to a cement pole and dumped it into a deserted well before fleeing.Police alleged that Roshan, who worked as both Jain’s clerk and driver, was aware that the moneylender was carrying Rs 70 lakh in cash. He allegedly roped in his friend Narayan by promising him Rs 10 lakh to help execute the murder.Investigators said that on July 18, while Jain was returning from the trip, Narayan restrained the victim as Roshan allegedly smothered him to death.Narayan, a resident of Adarsipura village, runs a pani puri business in Madhya Pradesh. After the murder, both accused fled.Police Saturday tracked Narayan to Udaipur. During the arrest, he allegedly attempted to escape by jumping a wall, injuring his leg before being apprehended.Police said efforts are continuing to arrest Roshan and recover the stolen cash.
