Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday entrusted the Telangana Overseas Manpower Company (TOMCOM) with the responsibility of overseeing the entire process, from providing training and organising job fairs to facilitating passport services and securing good job opportunities abroad for aspiring youth from Telangana.The CM held a review meeting on skill, human capital and knowledge training initiatives under the SHAKTI department. The meeting was attended by Labour, Employment and Mines minister G Vivek Venkataswamy and senior officials.Revanth said a large number of workers from north Telangana were travelling to Middle Eastern countries, and many of them were falling victim to fraud by agents and facing significant hardships. “The authorities of TOMCOM should enter into agreements with manpower agencies in destination countries to assist workers, including in obtaining passports.
“Such agreements would enable TOMCOM to intervene, hold discussions and ensure justice for workers if they face any difficulties abroad,” the CM said.He directed officials to collect details of agents facilitating the overseas migration of workers and register particulars of every individual sent abroad through them. A former IFS officer would be appointed as the CEO of TOMCOM to oversee these operations.The meeting also discussed providing training in Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) and Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) driving to job seekers.The CM also proposed establishing a research centre at the Young India Skill University to foster innovation. A dedicated department within the university to facilitate the learning of languages such as German, Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Russian will also be established. Instructors from these countries, along with local experts proficient in foreign languages, will be hired during training programmes.The feasibility of planting relocated trees within the university campus and providing scholarships to individuals undergoing training for blue-collar jobs, similar to overseas scholarships offered to students pursuing higher education, was also reviewed at the meeting.The CM said students studying in govt engineering colleges, ITIs, ATCs and polytechnic colleges should be provided opportunities to undertake internships with major companies.Revanth stressed that by pursuing internships alongside their studies, students would earn stipends and acquire skills relevant to their future careers. “Introduce courses in EV servicing and drone technology at Advanced Training Centres (ATCs). There is a growing need for skilled personnel to service electric vehicles (EVs) due to the rapidly increasing number of EVs. Also, offer drone technology courses as there has been a significant rise in the use of drones in the agriculture sector,” the CM said.Officials briefed the CM about the increasing demand for nursing services, both domestically and abroad, and the rising elderly population in several developed countries, which has created a demand for home-based nursing care. Revanth said permissions for nursing colleges should be granted to meet the growing demand for nurses.
