Major killed, two officers injured after SUV hits camel in Jaisalmer | Jaipur News



Jaisalmer: A 30-year-old Indian Army Major was killed, while two Lieutenant-rank officers of Jaisalmer Military Station were injured after their SUV hit a camel and overturned multiple times, about 6 km from the Jaisalmer district headquarters, late Thursday night.The deceased officer was identified as Major Hamza Arif (30), a resident of Indore, who had been married only a month ago. The two injured officers, Lt Abhinav Rathore and Lt Ayushman Gusain, are under treatment at Military Hospital.The camel died on the spot due to the impact.According to Army and police, the three officers were returning to the military station from Jaisalmer city in a private SUV Thursday night when a camel suddenly came onto the road near the Army station.The vehicle hit the animal, overturned nearly five times, and skidded for almost 100 metres, said police. Army personnel rushed to the accident site and rescued the three officers trapped inside. They were taken to Military Hospital where Major Arif died during treatment.According to Sadar Police Station ASI Jagdish Charan, police received information about an SUV overturning after hitting a camel on the road beyond Jaisalmer War Museum. On reaching the spot, police found the camel dead on the road and the badly damaged black Tata Safari. The Army personnel had already taken the injured officers to the hospital.On Friday, Major Hamza Arif’s body was taken to the mortuary at Jawahir Hospital, where a post-mortem was conducted. His mortal remains were handed over to Army authorities from where they will be sent to Indore for the last rites.The accident reportedly occurred at the same location where, about a year ago, a devastating private bus fire claimed the lives of 29 passengers, making the stretch one of the most accident-prone spots near Jaisalmer.
