Bhilwara: A history-sheeter was shot in the leg by Chittorgarh police after he allegedly opened fire at two police teams during an operation to apprehend him Friday.The accused, identified as Prabhu Singh (25), is undergoing treatment under police guard at Chittorgarh district hospital.According to SP Dharmendra Singh, the incident took place when the district special team (DST), led by ASI Suraj Kumar, was conducting a blockade on the Ghatiyawali-Khor road. At that time, Prabhu, riding a numberless motorcycle, allegedly fired at the DST personnel before fleeing the spot.Following the attack, an alert was issued and police teams set up blockades across the district. At a checkpoint near a river culvert, Prabhu allegedly opened fire again, this time targeting Shambhupura SHO Dharmraj Meena and his team. The bullet struck the bonnet of the police vehicle.Police first fired warning shots in the air before opening retaliatory fire in self-defence, hitting the accused below the knee. He was overpowered, arrested and shifted to the district hospital. An illegal firearm was recovered from his possession.Police said Singh has 15-20 criminal cases registered against him, including under the SC/ST Act, attempt to murder, assault, dacoity, theft and the Arms Act.Investigators suspect the accused was planning to kill Ishwar Singh, who is currently out on parole in the Ajayraj Singh murder case.A fresh case has been registered against Prabhu under the Arms Act and other relevant sections, including charges of attempting to murder police personnel.
