Kolkata: Reliance Jio has emerged as the top performer in average download speeds in Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) latest Independent Drive Test (IDT) that was conducted along the Kolkata to Kachubaria-Gangasagar coastal route in Bengal. The telecom operator that is leading with over 50 crore subscribers across the country was also found to maintain “low dropped calls” and “strong network coverage” across the coastal test route.According to the report, Jio recorded an average download throughput of 86 Mbps, the highest among all telecom service providers evaluated during the drive test. Airtel came in second position with a data download real speed of 55 Mbps, followed by Vodafone Idea with 24 Mbps and BSNL with 5 Mbps, the TRAI assessment has revealed.TRAI conducted the assessment in June across a 124 km coastal route as well as two hotspot locations like Outram Ghat in Kolkata and LCT Jetty at Kachubaria, and evaluated mobile network performance of different telecom service providers on key parameters including coverage, call drops, call setup, download and upload speeds.Jio also recorded low dropped calls during the test. On network coverage, the telecom service provider reported zero instances of no coverage, placing it among the stronger performers on the route.When 5G download speed was tested at Outram Ghat, Jio recorded 140 Mbps, higher than that of other operators, along with 100% call setup success rate. The fastest call setup was done in 6.9 seconds, according to the report.
