Hyderabad: The Telangana unit of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Wednesday said it will now shift its focus to education reforms in the state after the conclusion of its 36-day nationwide student and youth movement.CJP Telangana representative Vijay Mallangi said the demands include improving infrastructure and facilities in govt schools, increasing the education budget to at least 15%, strengthening fee reimbursement and ensuring accountability in question paper leak cases. “The CJP would prepare a ‘student charter’ in consultation with student organisations to push for these demands.”“Former Telangana Education Commission (TEC) chairperson Akunuri Murali (who resigned in May) had presented a detailed policy brief on reforms needed in Telangana’s education sector, which would form the basis for the proposed charter,” said Mallangi.Holding a “peaceful gathering” at People’s Plaza, Necklace Road, party leaders paid tribute to students who lost their lives by displaying their photographs and raising “Johar” slogans. Speaking at the event, CJP member Ruchith Asha Kamal said the programme was organised to commemorate the students and youth who participated in the recent movement.Student organisations also demanded withdrawal of FIRs registered against students. Disha Students Organisation leader Sreeja questioned what she described as selective action over social media posts and called for equal enforcement of the law.
